Spring fishing, in April and May on the Bow river, can be spectacular. With the warmer water temperatures the trout are feeding more intensely. The Bow River and Crowsnest River offer the Fly fisher some very good spring Dry fly action if the conditions are right. The trout for the most part will be taking nymphs and streamers. The Bow River will round out into excellent shape the last week in June. This typically is the end of spring runoff. The cloudy water means streamers and if you like targeting big trout on streamers this is the time for you. This is also the start of the excellent Stone fly on the dry fly fishing. Nothing beats big aggressive Bow River trout on the dry fly. You will also see trout rising to caddis and pmds. As the summer goes on you will see tricos, BWO’s and the caddis. This is also the time that you will see trout starting to look up for HOPPERS. This can continue into late September early October. The streamers fishing can also be very good through out the summer and into the fall. The nymph fishing is steady till the season is over.
